GRASSROOT CROWD GATHERS TO CELEBRATE BABIN VICTORY

What was the difference in Dr. Brian Babin's victory this time versus 16 years ago? One thing - yhis time when he won Liberty County enough voters from other areas voted the same way that he soundly won the run-off. But the man recognized just a few weeks ago as the single most influential person living in the district to revive the Republican Party after 100 years of nothing but defeat is now the hands down favorite in the general election. That is a huge difference from the days when Brian Babin was like David taking on Goliath!

The crowd of over 300 people were jubilant. They visited like they were at a family reunion despite the fact there were people there from all over the district and many had never met. United, some had just gotten involved in politics and had joined the impressive grassroots campaign and some were longtime supporters who lived for one more chance at electing someone they felt should have been in Congress years ago. ehre to hear

They were all there to celebrate with brian and Roxanne Babin and their five children and nine grandchildren. They were all there to celebrate the great hope brought by electing someone you think could really make a positive difference in Washington D.C.

In his statement, Brian Babin expressed his own thoughts as the evening rocked on in celebration: “When you contemplate running for office, the first question you need to ask yourself is, “Why am I running?” My answer 5 months ago was for my faith, for my kids and for my country. My answer in victory tonight is the same. I ran this race for my faith, for my kids and for my country. I have said over and over again during the last few months that this race was not about me. This cause is far greater than ourselves. It is a call to duty for all of us. That is why I am so humbled and honored that you are allowing me to be your standard bearer.”

Dr. Brian Babin will be the Congressional District 36 Republican nominee on the November ballot. The differences in his vision for representing this district and his general election opponent are stark. The differences of what he will work for and what his opponent will work for are as far apart as it gets. Tune in and join the grassroots effort by sending some money to the Babin campaign and get ready to help educate voters and get themto the pols in November and let's send a gift to the American people by sending Dr. Brain Babin to represent Congressional District  36. Stay in contact with what is going on in the campaign and learn about Dr. Babin and get updates about his campaign by visiting www.BabinforCongress.com.

THE TIME FOR REAL DEBATE HAS COME

There are stark differences between the Republican and Democrat Party platforms in almost every category and in a way that is refreshing... IF their elected officials actually adhered to these beliefs, the debate would be spark filled and therefore illuminating. Alas it is mostly hot air on both sides, which is why we so rarely have real conversations about who we are and where we want to go and why so much remains unchanged.

Look at how the parties package their platform summaries to appeal to voters (see websites of each party's summary below). Even with all wording that is meant to be clever and appeal to the masses, anyone can read between the lines and see there are real differences that need to be debated versus the nonsense we have hurled at us at election time.

The Republican Party is in a uniquely strong position in the 2016 election cycle. The disasters of the Obama Presidency and the Democrat led Senate leave Republicans in a strong position to win and to regain power in Washington D. C. So much so, it is time for us to actually make the win count for as much as possible. While we have the public leaning our way and listening in hopes of hearing something that will actually make America strong again and the economy recover and the dreams for their children rekindled, we need to make debate about the return to the Constitution as the map for our success. We need to think in terms of the Constitution and we need our candidates to make our case within the framework of the Constitution. Our solutions to problems should be Constitutional.

In this cycle we need to be more united. The Democrats almost never destroy their own while we almost always do. First, during campaign season we need to allow our candidates a free pass from almost all criticism (they will get plenty from Democrats). I am all for eliminating RINOs, but first we must realize a RINO is not someone who disagrees with us personally. They are people who disagree with the Republican party platform. Or they are people who are giving aid and comfort to the enemy. The following  is a short list of sides taken by the platforms of each party on different issues. It is no substitute for reading the platform, but if you know someone that can be identified in this short list as a RINO then you should have worked to beat them in the primary, not the general election.

Tea Party folks and Libertarian leaning folks can be leaders and help the Republican Party turn the country’s government back to what it was meant to be when Madison et al set up the framework we give so much lip service to. Candidates we have running in the general election may be good Republicans but trust me Constitutionalist are amazed at how similar the two parties are in their indifference to being true to the document that was meant to restrict the government and protect WE THE PEOPLE from “we the government”. shutting these folks out or trying to set them in a corner and tell them they have to vote for our side is not acceptable. Especially when most of us agree with 90% of what they say. We should be fearless and not fear these differences. But we should have our inner party debates after general elections.

WHEN WILL IT EVER END!

Okay Democrats and fans of President Obama I have a question for you. And those of you who in one of the worst turn outs in the county’s election history ….those who voted for the hospital district that has plucked millions of dollars out of …….. not thin air, but the taxpayers’ pockets. I have the same question for you. Please help me with the following question:

“Since ObamaCare is now the law of the land and one-sixth of the U.S. economy has now been illegally taken under the wing of a President that has no regard for the Constitution he claims to have been a teaching college professor over, WHY DO WE NEED TO BE TAXED FOR A HOSPITAL DISTRICT THAT’S STATED PURPOSE WAS TO CARE FOR THE INDIGENT WHEN THE FEDERAL LAW ELIMINATES THIS NEED ?

Please feel free to expound on your answer.

For an opportunity to answer another question please note the following: how often are sunset laws actually used to end laws that are duplicated or ineffective?

KNIGHT ENDORSED BY LOSER

The man who lost his commissioner’s seat and two years later placed last in his run for county judge, took his credentials as a lifelong Democrat and one of the men who caused the problems now being cured in the county and endorsed one of the Republican candidates in the run off for Liberty County Judge.

No surprise. He endorsed Jay Knight. Knight has connections to the group that had Republican party officials helping to elect Democrats. This is what some would call Fontenot’s port in the storm. In the new world Fontenot finds himself in buying votes or just getting them because you have a “D” by your name is very unpopular. He wants some kind of connection in the courthouse and this group Jay is involved in is a natural. Their agenda may be hidden from the public and even most of their supporters, but Fontenot knows being a Democrat or someone who plays fast and loose with county money is not a problem for their key people.

Fontenot was not pursued legally for using county money to fix his car and a friends truck, but if Knight loses we may have seen the last of his “public service”.

JACK HARTEL PASSES AT 80

                                                   THE HARTEL/RIPKOWSKI CLAN

Most of us just knew three things about Jack Hartel.
He was extermely likable. He was a huge Texas Longhorn fan. And he would always be an important part of Liberty County history mostly because he was the County Attorney for over four decades. People that know his family know he must have been a great father and that his relatives are proud , like anyone would be, to have him in the family tree. Jack was already missed a great deal after his retirement and he will be missed even more with his passing.

A heartfelt salute to you Jack Hartel! You were loved much on this earth and you will be remembered with great affection by many.

The following is a copy of Jack Hartel's obituary and it is worth reading:

BABIN A BETTER CANDIDATE AND A RESIDENT

On the radio this morning, Ben Streusand references The Chronicle to back his attacks on Dr. Babin, but when one goes back and reads that edition, the article merely indicates these were the claims of Streusand. So Streusand uses his own comments in the liberal Chronicle to back up what he says again on radio.  Streusand has a public official/friend in Galveston that is an official who says they are irrate that public officials in the county where Dr. Babin used their monikor to agree with Dr.Babin and say he cut taxes. But the Galveston official uses his monikor to weigh in with. The fact is their would have been (by law) an automatic rollback had Streusand been telling the truth. This man will never get away with these kinds of lies and distortions in Washington D.C. If he tries to win inner party debates by smearing people with distortions, he will be ostracized. This is not the kind of "debate" he will have there.

Streusand obviously tries to push the envelop with his "attack first answer questions after the election" style. His response to why should people refrain from criticizing himbecause he is not running in the district where he lives is to say it is not illegal. While true, and mudslinging in an election is not illegal, is it right? Dr.Babin is a better prepared candidate to represent us than a mortgage banker from Houston whether it is legal or not. Babin is a vet and better prepared to represent us on defense issues. he is a dentist and better to represent us on ObamaCare. He is a small businessman that will want to reduce the influence of big government regulations on small business while Ben Streusand took advantage of the lack of regulations on mortgage banking.

Dr.Babin was in the Air Force and is more capable of talking to NASA. babin lives in a small town and will be more capable of relating to what is almost a 90% rural district. Dr.Babin has been on a school board and a city council. while Streusands career is all talk about what he would have done. Babin home schooled two children andsent three to public school, while Streusand says he would be favorable to home schoolers but sent neither of his kids there.Babin was supported by the NRA and is an avid hunter while Streusand'ssoft hands and pink rosy cheeks look like he walks from his large air conditioned garage to the back door and calls that outdoor exercise.

So what are we left with? Streusand says his expertise is as a radio debater and morgtgage banking. While Streusand claimed to be a guru on the radio because he is a guest a great deal on a channel west of here, he didn't set the world on fire. He did do well with what he had to work with however. And he will not debate Boehner or Pelosi on the radio. And his banking interests and backers frankly scare the heck out of me. He has benefitted ghreatly by loopholes in banking legislation . This could be a case of the fox guarding the hen house.

THE REAL BEN STREUSAND

USING GUTTER POLITICS TO BUY A SEAT IN CONGRESS

When running in previous years for Texas’ Congressional District 10, Ben Streusand attacked Michael McCaul unmercifully. McCaul went on to trounce Streusand 2 to 1 in the finale when voters got sick of his negative campaigning and Streusand went shopping for another district to run in. When we analyze who this candidate for Congressional District 36 really is, our biggest help may not be what Ben Streusand says about himself, but it should be what he did in that race.

From the beginning Streusand used facts about McCaul’s life to distort his candidacy and deceive voters. First he accused McCaul of working for Democrats in the past.  He justifies his deceptive campaign rhetoric by pointing out McCaul’s first job out of law school was working in the Texas attorney general's office and the attorney general was a Democrat. He now acknowledges this was a nonpolitical hire( from 1987 to 1990), but also points out that technically it was not a lie .

But it is easy to tell Streusand has no regrets about deceivivg voters with hundreds of thousands of dollars of television and newspaper ads about Mike McCaul (now Republican Congressman Mike McCaul): Streusand continues to this day defending the commercial, saying, "I think when you've spent half your career working for Democrats, it's hard to escape a logical conclusion that the time you spend working for Democrats indicates an affiliation with the philosophy of the Democrat Party."

Another Streusand ad, in a reference to McCaul's stint as a federal prosecutor, without any apology says, "McCaul worked for Bill Clinton and Janet Reno for six years, and Reno picked McCaul to defend her actions at Waco." Streusand knows that as a federal prosecutor, McCaul was a nonpolitical hire who worked under two Republican and one Democratic presiden, but again, Streusand points out that this is not “a lie according to the definition of lying.

Analysts have concluded Streusand’s decision to go negative about Mccaul’s and deceptive about Mccaul’s association with liberal democrats  was probably a defensive move more than anything else. Voters have little more to do than google and discover that while in college Streusand worked on Capitol Hill for his local Congressman and continued working for him after graduation from college. The Congressman was a liberal Democrat. McCaul didn’t have to stretch the facts. They were in black and white for any voter with a computer and some time to discover.

Streusand's GOP credentials wwere easy for voters and McCaul to question as his  contributions to former U.S. Rep. Ken Bentsen, D-Houston, ($500) and former Democratic U.S. Sen. Bob Krueger ($1,750 were and still are a matter of record. So while the Streusand campaign was trying to create an image of Mccaul, McCaul was having to spend boat loads of money correcting Streusand’s “technical non-lies”. And while McCaul’s steadfast commitment to Republicans was never up in the air before the election time mudslinging, Streusand, at best had his finger in the air trying to bet on the political winds as late as the year 2000 when Republicans blew the Democrat off the political map in Texas. Nothing was more proof of Streusand willingness to help democrats beat Republicans than when he made an all out effort  to Kay Bailey Hutchison  in a 1993 special election.

So how did he respond when caught. He continued to mudsling in order to make the voters suspect McCaul’s record and he defended his donations to two the liberal Democrats by saying the Bentsen and Krueger donations "were business-related at the time." This might cause some voters to suspect some of his votes would be “business-rerlated” if he were ever elected to any office.

According to the March 24tth edition of The Austin American Statesman that election year Streusand’s constant negative ads caused a campaign that “has devolved into an issue-free contest based on questioning each other's Republican credentials”.  The paper also went on to point out, “Several previously scheduled debates fell through when Streusand didn't show up.”

The “no show” charge sounds familiar. It could be that Streusand was impressed with the paper’s negative comment and saved the idea for more non issue related arguing in his current race. Or it could be that he knew at least one of the eleven other Republicans in the primary had noted his tardiness and absences at a few of the forums.

But some would say all of these campaign tricks pales compared to the one against John Devine, one of Streusand’s primary opponents. In the primary a “push call” was used to deceive the public, to distort the truth, and to destroy hard-working, honest people.  Streusand’s campaign benefited when an opponent of John’s made Push Calls into the homes of John’s supporters with the following statement: “John Devine has been endorsed by Planned Parenthood”. The goal was to deceive the public, to distort the truth, and to discourage John Devine supporters from voting. It worked.

After the March Primary, Streusand was asked why he made the Push Call. He never said his campaign didn’t make the call. His reply was, “A contributor to John’s campaign also represented Planned Parenthood. Therefore, the statement was correct.”

This is who Ben Streusand is. You can not separate who a man is from what he does. Ben Streusand’s deception and distortion of the character of Dr. Brian Babin are simply a statement of who Ben Streusand just like when he besmirched our honorable Unites States Representative Mike McCaul.

Two goals of this campaigning are to win voters to one’s side and to turn off voters and try to turn out just the negative campaigners votes.

Brian Babin

THE REAL BRIAN BABIN

AN UNSURPASSED RECORD OF LEADERSHIP

When running in previous years to represent Texas in the United States Congress, one of the biggest compliments Dr. Brian Babin has claim to is that his Republican opponents in the primaries have almost always endorsed him after losing to him. In this campaign most of his primary opponents have endorsed him and one of them that has not is rumored to be on his run-off opponent’s payroll. Babin’s previos attempts to win a Congressional seat were under very different circumstances than this election. While Dr. Babin ran friendly races against Republicans in the primaries, he has always been a very persuasive debater In both the primary and general election. He won counties in the district when it had been over a century since a Republican had made that kind of showing. He didn’t do it by tearing down Republicans or deceiving general election voters. When we analyze who this candidate for Congressional District 36 really is, and the difference between him and his opponent, one of our biggest helps is how they performed in previous races.

Babin has a clear record of campaigning on the conservative values he has held his entire life. While considered somewhat of a rebel in the 1980’s, Babin did not change his values to get elected. His values are now clearly the values most East Texans hold. While the other candidate claims to have a market on Tea Party endorsements and an endorsement of a Congressman, Dr. Babin has the endorsements of eight Congressmen and helped start a tea Party group. While his opponent likes to portray himself as the upcoming agent of change in this district, no one has a bigger claim to having worked and seen change in this district than him. While Streusand points to Houston radio and his guest spots on the air to indicate he is a great debater, Babin has already debated so many times in this district and won so many hearts and minds, he is a poster boy for grassroot leadership here. He represents us well because, unlike Streusand, he lives here – and has lived her for a long time.
Dr.Babin will make a great Congressman for this District   We know this because his long-time involvement in his community as a Mayor and holder of other offices has always resulted in his re=election by the people in his community. We know this because when all of the elected official in this area were Democrats, Babin was an outspoken effective leader as an early Reagan campaign volunteer, as a Republican County Chair,  as a trailblazer in his two previous campaigns for Congress that paved the way for others as he was the first person with an “R” by their name to win certain counties in over 100 years. His and Roxanne’s success raising  children and their success in their chosen walks of life, tells me that this is a man who has lived and learned from a lifetime of experiences, and could represent the District well.
a man who will balance an aggressive advocacy of conservative economic, limited-government, national defense and social conservative principles with a prudent advocacy for the legitimate federal interests in our District, including the Ports of Houston and Orange, NASA, Ellington Field, vocational education for jobs related to those facilities, the coastal flood plain and property insurance, and proper development and maintenance of natural resources.  This balanced advocacy is crucial, because CD 36 is arguably the most interdependent district in Texas with the proper and legitimate exercise of federal responsibilities—we need someone who understands those interests and will balance them with the need for implementing conservative priorities in Washington.

REPUBLICAN CHAIRMEN BETTING ON BETTER TURNOUT

The Liberty Courier is impressed with the dedication of the Republican County Chairmen in East Texas. Hardin County Chairmen Kent Batman has taken a couple of extra steps to emphasis the importance of voter participation.

When drivers enter Kountze from the southwest they can't help but see the dedication of Hardin  County to the voting process. In the esplanade right across from the courthouse tie wrapped to two poles a yellow sign with red writing informs everyone that passes by about the week of early voting and election day.

Chairman Batman has gone one step further to fight what has become notorious low voter turnouts in run-off elections. He has issued a challenge to perhaps the most dedicated patriots in all of the election process. he has bet several area County Chairmen $25 each that is to be donated to The Crisis Pregnancy Center. All Chairmen wiil send the Center $25 except for the one whose county has the highest percentage turnout.

Liberty County's republican Party Chairman is Ken Coleman. We know he is meant to be included in this effort, but have not reached him for comment or to hear any strategy for helping voters to cast their votes. Stay tuned --------

MCNAIRS ON MEND

Lisa McNair has a smile on her face and is enjoying some family time with her daughter Erin in the facebook picture posted on Mother’s day. It is good to see and we wanted to share that with everyone that has prayed and shown concern and is not on facebook.

The head on collision could have been a great deal worse, but three surgeries later and Lisa is on her way to mending. County Judge Craig McNair walked away from the totaled truck with lesser injuries but very serious ones nevertheless. Swollen and stiff, Judge McNair has been advised to take a little more time at the house before working back at the office. As usual, Judge McNair is still directing his orders and wishes via telephone.

Look at the three stories down to find out which candidate for county judge was caught by a law enforcement officer having sex on the hood of a car.

JUDGE MOREFIELD, "RIGHT ON THE MONEY"

Whether his attitude is characterized as angry or frustrated, Judge Morefield is on the record again, and it may be time for those involved to be concerned. District Judge Mark Morefield is tired of the county wasting money and tired of the delays and the incompetence surrounding the conversion from the current private management of Liberty County’s jail to it going back under the control of the Sheriff’s office. Since the predicted savings of an approximate one million dollars, everyone elected official associated with causing the changes to not be implemented has had their troubles.

First, former Commissioner Todd Fontenot was easily beaten in the primaries. His disinformation in defense of Democrat officials’ privatization of the jail was one thing among many that made his attempt to win the county judge seat unsuccessful from the start. Doubling down and  continuing to tell taxpayers previous administrations had done a good job of handling the county’s finance was a bad political bet for Fontenot.

The foot dragging delays and opposition in commissioners court could have already cost a first term commissioner their job as well. Charlotte Warner faced the voters and lost her re-election bid in the Republican primary to former sheriff Greg Arthur. Warner was in many ways one of the most qualified commissioners in the history of the county, but with tight budgets and very little money to spend on improvements due to past administrations, Warner had very few of the positive news most politicians like to have going into an election.

And all the signs indicate it will cost another commissioner his job in the May 27th Republican primary run-off, where Leon Wilson has the edge over incumbent commissioner, Norman Brown, as early voting approaches.

As County Judge Craig McNair approaches election day his and his wife’s recent hospitalization and subsequent rehabilitation may inhibit his efforts to push for the measures all three of Liberty County’s judges seem to favor. Judge McNair and his wife were the victims of a head on collision and while Craig’s injuries were not as sever as his wife Lisa’s, this week his lower leg was still double the size it normally is and doctors want him stay off of his feet until the swelling goes down.

Heretofore, Judge Morefield seems to have been on the same page with Judge McNair with both men backing the transition of control of the jail going back to the Sheriff. Some of the many problems in the jail have been made public and some remain untold. The smuggling, sex, drugs, and misbehavior in the jail, added to the cost effectiveness of the changes, has made this a no brainer issue to many who have analyzed the situation. However Morefield has not with held some criticism recently. In the latest Rotarian meeting, Morefield’s address on the topic was aimed at the current contract that applies in lieu of an anticipated six month notice to the private management group administering the jail system at this time. Some who heard the address say that thought the criticism should have been directed solely at County Attorney Wes Hinch, but they surmise it was probably cast more broadly to encourage commissioners’ court to do the right thing and transition more quickly.

County Judge Craig McNair has pointed toward this proactive move towards county efficiency as the financial source he intends to use to give employees in the Sheriff’s office a much needed raise. McNair has said that as much as 50% of the cost savings cango to giving those who serve and protect a better paycheck. In the meantime, McNair’s opponent in the May 27th primary has had some success in attracting sheriff department votes by saying he would have already given them a pay raise. Typical of candidates who have never held office, voters are left to guess how McNair’s opponents would pay for this promise and the ones he has made to other departments in the courthouse in his effort to garner votes. Some have guessed he would not have replaced the patrol vehicles in lieu of pay raises.  Judge McNair’s plan calls for both, but as an officeholder, he has the reality of needing to gain the votes on commissioners’ court.

The Liberty Courier predicts the votes will be there and the transition will happen if McNair is re-elected. We are never quite sure what Mr.Knight will actually do.

When the transition does take place the cost savings bonding program District Judge Chap Cain and District Judge Mark Morefield and County-Court – at – Law Tommy Chambers Judge have enacted will continue to yield to the county’s advantage. New ankle bracelet technology will enable the judges to bond non violent offenders to bond out without causing the public concerns they normally would have. The bracelets will not only track their whereabouts, but it will track whether or not they are intoxicated.

Before these recent proposals it some may have argued that the security and safety of citizens has the fixed cost of incarceration of many of the people awaiting trial. When this is fully implemented, more and more people will pay for their own meals and medical care and housing rather than the taxpayers.

READER SAYS THERE IS SEX SCANDAL IN LOCAL COUNTY JUDGE’S RACE

THE FEMALE'S NAME, THE LAW ENFORCEMENT
OFFICER'S NAME WHO FILMED, THE AUTHOR OF
THE LETTER, AND WHERE THIS ALL HAPPENED
& WHO ELSE PARTICIPATED WILL BE WITHHELD

Dear Editor,

A local man still in a run-off for public office has been caught on video having sex on the hood of a car with a local female. Who knows if The Liberty Courier will show the video, but for legal purposes the video will be available. The man in the video is married as well as  the woman. Or at least she was married at the time, but they were not married to each other. Some people run for public office when most of us think they ought to be focusing purely on their private problems. This man is easily recognizable. He wants to be county judge now. His behavior could put media in an awkward position if he lived in the big city because they sometimes show these things. But in this rural county, we doubt any media will show pictures and the Houston news channels are unlikely do anything on Liberty County. I hope The Liberty Courier will decide  to post the video because of all the relentless attempts by the Knight campaign to imply all he does is play the fiddle for a band while we all know he is gossiping about Judge McNair's off time. It is their call.

As youcan see in the video xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx edited out xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.

When elected officials have trouble in their private lives, some believe it is their business and their business only. President Bill Clinton was defended that way. He committed adultery and lied in a deposition and some believed that was nobody’s business but his and his wife’s. Those people were relentless in their political attacks on their opponents and then self righteous about their own behavior. As the chief law enforcement officer in the country, when Clinton deprived someone of the truth in their court proceedings, it became the nation’s business. The other thing, and maybe the most important, is Clinton potentially became an easy target for blackmail with his reckless behavior. It clearly deserved public scrutiny.

When Jay Knight put his name on the ballot, he opened himself up for public scrutiny for the same reasons. His campaign has made a big deal out of County Judge Craig McNair flying to Tennessee to see his daughters a handful of times. How dare this man be running around in bars on weekends point his finger at anybody else.

With the revelation of this video, I would say the Knight campaign’s strategy of trying to defeat a candidate by starting a negative campaign might dissuade others from doing the same. His opponent may not want to, but at some point, the rest of us may get sick of one unanswered accusation after another from someone who had no business running for office. It is kind of late in the campaign to suggest Jay Knight withdraw from the county judge’s race, but I hope The Liberty Courier or someone will call for him to do so. If he wins, I will make sure the others who participated in this same act are called out.

Thanks for posting this,

NAMEWITHHELD

Side Note: THE LIBERTY COURIER is NOT calling for Jay Knight to withdraw from the race as the letter suggest we consider. This letter is being posted because a video of a leud public act was filmed by law enforcement and charges should have,or could have been filed. While we are not interested in going through people's closets and their private behavior, this became a public matter when the individuals involved did not go to a priavte home or motel.

WHAT IS GOOD FOR THE GOOSE IS GOOD FOR THE GANDER

QUESTIONS ABOUT KNIGHT'S TAXES NEED TO BE ANSWERED
Politicians Like County Judge Candidate Jay Knight Don’t Live In Glass Houses

If politicians lived in glass houses, we would know all about them at election time. Local politician Jay Knight aspires to be Liberty County Judge and in his efforts, he and a few of his devotees have repeatedly tried to dig into County Judge Craig McNair’s life and reveal some reason for voters to elect Knight instead of re-elect McNair.

Telling the public, “ Me and my buddies want all of his power,” is not much of a campaign slogan. Instead, much of their effort has gone into stirring up non-conservaties and faux conservatives with complaints about how Judge McNair refuses to increase different budgets and spend more money. They are selective in where they use this approach because taxpayers in Liberty County would not be likely to vote Knight in if they knew he was going to increase some of his friends salaries or entire department budgets.

Telling the public, “Judge McNair should be at home by the phone on his days off just in case there is an emergency, “ doesn’t sound like a good campaign slogan either. So they have pretended like Judge McNair is out of state much of the time. But when the facts are presented and it is made known Judge McNair’s daughters have moved to Tennessee and he has visited them a handful of times on weekends. Knight’s whisper campaign just repeats “he is out of state too much!” over and over, and louder and louder.

But the one thing about the “glass” Knight wants voters to look in, people can see in and out of it. When voters look into Knight’s life they see his free time at “honky tonks” playing with a band. He has done it for years. Recently (since he decided to run for office) he even does benefits for people.

When the voter weighs McNair’s visiting his daughters in his free time verses Knight honky tonking, may be Knight’s negative campaigning will work and he will win. I personally think McNair wins that weigh in however.

But it is the other thing we see when Knight asked voters to look into where McNair was spending his time that should tilt voters away from Knight.

Knight is claiming a homestead exemption using his daughter in his scheme. If he wanted taxpayers to vote for him, he should have spent years paying the correct amount of taxes on the property he is being deceptive about, a County Judge who uses his relationship to Allan Connor in the CAD to avoid taxes could have all kinds of other schemes to take advantage of the powers that be if elected.

Are we going to vote a man in office that is already pulling this kind of stuff before he even gets in office? We just got rid of a great deal of the good ole boy system. Do we want to return to it so soon.

By the way, Knight use to attack McNair by saying he gave his sister a “special raise” until County Auditor Harold Seay confirmed that Karen McNair received a standard across the board raise everyone else did.

STREUSAND FAILS TO PAYOFF DEBT

Helps Infamous Lois Lerner Attack Republicans

The Liberty Courier invited people to write in and let us know what they think or what is going on in their neck of the woods. Letters we receive can be marked for publication or FYI. One letter we received was very informative and checked out to be very factual. Below find the writers’ concern at their request expressed in simplest form :

1) Ben Streusand has failed to pay off the near unprecedented campaign debt from his last failed attempt to win a seat in Congress – the loan is an eye popping $3,000,000. “We can only assume he is waiting for voters in our area to pay off the debt from his campaign in another area if we elect him.”

2) Streusand’s campaign team is shopping another one of their deceptive “stories” to voters who are coming to learn about the race and to the media (and preparing we can be certain to send out a last minute attack by mail). This attack is right out of the Democrats playbook. IT IS OUTRAGEOUS THAT A POLITIICAN WHO STILL OWES SUCH A HUGE DEBT IS CRITICIZING HIS OPPONENT WHO HAS MORE THAN TAKEN CARE OF HIS RESPONSIBILTIES. In fact it is an attack that famed Republican killer and former IRS leader Lois Lerner used on Dr. Brian Babin after he was the first Republican to win a few counties in East Texas. Streusand is well aware that Dr. Babin, like many Republican organizations, should wear his encounter with Ms. Lerner and her FEC attacks as a badge of honor, but he does not live in this district and he is working hard to both lower Dr. Babin’s image of integrity and lower the turnout in the eight counties Babin won in the election just a few months ago. He conveniently leaves out facts that would earn a unanimous salute from voters and tries to continue his barrage of negative attacks in an effort to bury his opponent so deep in lies that he can not afford to rebut them all.

3)  In public after political meetings, his campaign staff is openly laughing at what they think will be the successful scheme that will be their ticket to Washington – film and record everything Dr. Babin says and if any of their film can be used to create even a hint of something their spin doctors can use to damagepeople’s perception of Dr. Babin they will use it. In other words, shellack the voters with questionable information that creates doubt.

The writer concludes with the question: Why does a man who says he is here to help our community have to tear down one of the most respected community leaders in this district to “help” us?

STREUSAND IS A GOOD MUDSLINGER, BUT HE HAS CLOSE TO ZERO SUPPORTERS IN LIBERTY COUNTY

richard pegues Richard Pegues Richargu

There he goes again, Ben Streusand using a combination of deceptive mudslinging ads and endorsements from people that are paying him back. But we have one question for Mr Streusand, can you name a public offiical in Liberty County that endorses you? Question two, how about a grassroots list of people who live in Liberty County? We don't think so. We think you are disconnected and you are name dropping and dragging in people on the fringe by making them feel imporatnt. Why would anyone vote for a Houston mortgage banker who does not live in the district when the voters gave the most votes to a proven conservative that has had lists of grassroot supporters BECAUSE BRIAN BABIN LIVES HERE AND KNOWS PEOPLE AND THEY KNOW HE HAS

 INTEGRITY!
